After nearly more than one week away without writing any review as i was back in my lovely country, I felt like an orphan today and I decided that I would do something special to celebrate this coming back, something unusual. I went to take my päevapraed in a “RKiosk”. I can already hear you my dear smart visitors, yes it is not a restaurant or a lunch place, but I am lazy (remember I’m French), and it was the closest to where I could find food.
I will not waste my time describing or rate the overall decoration of a RKiosk, as being surrounded by peanuts, snacks or sodas is not really exciting. I will concentrate on the main point, which kind of food they are offering.
Back in the past, while I was working in Paris, it was very common for people to eat just a sandwich or similar in bakeries, bars, or even dedicated places selling food such as Kebab or Panini. Not because people do like it, but more because it is sincerely convenient when you’ve a busy day and not enough time to go to restaurants. You can easily find very good and fresh sandwiches for a “reasonable” price, which is to say around five to six Euros.
In Kiosk, you also have access to not less than ten sorts of sandwiches, from the classic long one with bread, ham, tomatoes and cheese to the hamburger you have to warm up. Prices are usually from 19eek to 35eek. I think I tried since I’m here nearly all of them, so I’ll do my best to give the most accurate opinion for such a lunch.
The “best” ones, if we consider that the taste is not that important are the long ones. The simpler it is, the more I suggest it to people. Except maybe for one, which I think is a real scandal, two slices of white bread, with some ridiculous amount of ham, cheese and some salad and tomato for…. 30 eek !! In which world all these ingredients could cost so much? I understand the point that they need to make profit, but there is a limit to cheating on people with food. I even wonder if some people are crazy enough to buy it. Well, at least I was once. And I sincerely regret it now.
The hamburger, well, was like every hamburger you can find in supermarkets in the frozen food section. Average quality beef, tasteless sauce and cheese melting all around the plate except on the burger. To avoid also if you don’t want to spread a very strong smell around you once you take it out of the microwave.
I might sound very critical this time, but I honestly think that for this price, they could find better products to sell to people who don’t have thirty minutes minimum to spend outside for lunch.
However, one very personal positive point, Hot Dogs. They are simple, and even if the sausages are not the most astonishing and tasty you’ll find, they do deserve some gratefulness to fill in my stomach with something hot in the mornings just before going to the office. And I’m not saying these things because they call it “French Hot Dog”- I still have not found out the reason for this name as we don’t have it in France (or very very rarely).
