After a very long time, i finally had some time to write again about some places I’ve been visiting for lunch or dinner.
The first place to deserve the honor of this coming back is certainly one of the biggest surprises of these last months I’ve spent eating outside. Mosaiik Café, or Lounge as you prefer to call it has been my canteen for quite some times, and one I’ve never been disappointed in.
Historically speaking, I used to go there a lot one year ago, but stopped at some point around last june after I got sincerely bad experiences about food and service. So as I’m not the kind to stay on bad opinions for an indefinite time, I went there in December, not a long time after they changed the owner and the Menu. The apprehension I felt was quickly overwhelmed once I entered again this nicely located restaurant (Kaarli pst 2).
First thing, a smiling person welcomed us, speaking and understanding English in a perfect way was the first good surprise compared to his predecessors (the old one certainly not aware that serving with a smile very often helps for the customers to feel better).
Second surprise came with the food. I decided at this time to try a Paëvapraad not to take any financial risk – yes, paying more than 6€ in some places for lunch is an outrage to cooking in general and restaurants. Nice presentation in the plate, enough food to feel sustained, and cherry on the cake, the food was tasty ! After this new experience, I decided to come back many times and try all sorts of dishes.
Caesar Salads, meat, pasta or even “snacks” always were of good quality not to say “good”, in the gastronomical point of view. Every meal or person eating gets some nice piece of bread with some balsamic and olive oil sauce in order to wait for the main meal – which is what we supposed to be the use of this bread while I found inconvenient and impolite to wait for too long to eat this attractive piece. They also serve, wait for it, water for free !! Yes, I said it. Water for free. Even if it is probably not mineral water, they usually add some lemon or else to give some taste.
The place itself has been nicely decorated, nothing posh, but big enough and with some comfortable chairs so at least more than 50 persons can probably eat at the same time. About the service speed, if the place is not completely full, the meals might not take too long according to normal criteria (less than 15/20 minutes).
They opened an outdoor terrace for the ones who want to enjoy the last next sun rays.
Only one reproach, which cannot really be one: They haven’t been used yet to work when the place is full with customers and the waitresses and waiters looked a bit lost last time I checked. But a good month training and I’m sure they will deal with it.
Mosaiik is definitely a nice place where to go for lunch.

must go or might go?
Once upon a time they had the bast espresso in town, but I think that the people running the place at the time went bankrupt.
Indeed, it is a cool place for a quick lunch break: good price, acceptable food and WATER COMES FOR FREE!
MUST ! You know my taste for good food
Hi Paul,
I didn’t try the espresso fearing to be disappointed like in too many places in here. But the fact that the previous owners went bankrupt is not surprising me. The service was awful and the food quality went down big time.
This is in my opinion one of the best places for a lunch break in this area for price and quality…And WATER FOR FREE RULES THE WORLD !
I like Mosaic a lot, too. For good (and beautifully served!) food; very tasty complimentary bread; free water in nice bottles with lemon, orange, lime or cucumber stripes inside; and good service. Only once I was dissapointed with seljanka soup and when the waitress noticed my not finished plate she asked if I did not like the soup. So when I said I did not like the meat she said she would let the cook know. I think it’s respect to the customers and desire to improve, that’s why I will keep on coming to Mosaic.
@Julia : Thank you for the input. Really accurate, as indeed, the people there really seem to care about customers’ feedback. Is it to improve or just to be polite, i don’t know. But it is a good first step.
Just one thing which i didn’t add in the post, Paevapraad are good, but the other meals which take more time (and are not already pre-cooked) are of a better quality.
