While the summer is coming back, the sun warms our skins and sees tourists getting  back to the streets of the Old Town, I decided to try a new (at least for me) place called Ceramix Cafe.

Located in Viru 13/15, on the top of a building, before entering I was expecting a very classical cafe, maybe even some Tallinn style posh- fancy place, which would let me have at least a sunny lunch on a terrace.

First surprise, the access.

You have to take a lift to the 4th floor, which brings you directly to the cafe. First impression while I entered, the place is full of space, decorated with a sober taste which makes it very comfortable overall.

After a quick look at the people sitting around, lots of them look like students, but not only. The music is not too loud like in some places where you have to yell to make your order, and the noise of the crowd is more like a background sound. The feeling is quite positive so far.

Heading to the bar to order my daily “Päevapraed”, the smell of smoking waterpipes is caressing my nose but without any aggression. Some people are sitting with one and enjoying this relaxing time and I like the idea and the fact that the smoke doesn’t make you suffocate.

The barmaid, a very nice and smiling woman is also smoking behind the bar with one of the waiters. It really seems to be a very nice place and I like it more and more. I come closer to check the menu, and although I have some suspicions about the food quality, the sun outside put me in the perfect mood to try the “meal of the day“.

40 EEK, this is the price of my daily desire. Not that I was expecting a lot more, but for a cafe located at the entrance of the heart of Tallinn, this is a very good surprise.

Now I will try to be pragmatic and give a neutral opinion despite of the many smiles I get from the barmaid and waiters.

For the service, ordering the food was fast, the girl is smiling and she speaks and understands perfectly English. And I insist on the smile which is not the most common reaction you get when you order something to eat in Tallinn.

The meal itself, pork with smashed potatoes and some vegetables doesn’t seem so appealing, but I don’t want to be too picky and, together with a pint of beer makes a total price of 75eek.

I head to the large balcony where some tables are available for smokers or people searching for some sun. The view is very nice: I don’t hear the noise of the crowd downstairs and the smell of the McDonald in front doesn’t reach my nose. Some young people around me are still smoking water pipe and playing cards.

Now, about the meal itself.

Served in a classic plate is not something amazing.
Very simple dish – Pork, potatoes, a bit of salad -, the amount of food is more than correct, and the taste, although it could have been warmer, is also correct.
Nothing to complain about the food for this price.

The waiters were polite and still smiling all the time, and I could enjoy my lunch in peace.

To conclude this review about the Ceramix Cafe, the place is definitely worth going, not only for lunch, but also for some after work drinks and  relaxed afternoons.
And thanks to the free WiFi it makes possible also to spend an afternoon with the laptop working from a spot under the sun of the Old Town.
